The first set of Baby Ponies was introduced in Year 3, between 1984 and 1985. The Baby Ponies came in earth, unicorn, and pegasus poses, and each of them matched up with a previously printed adult pony from one of the earlier sets. Many of the babies, however, had slightly different colors or symbols than their mothers. Like the adults, the baby pegasus and unicorn ponies have glittery symbols, while the earth babies don't. The baby unicorns, like the adult unicorns, also have two colors in their manes.
All of the Year 3 Baby Ponies were later re-released with some alterations as Pearlized Baby Ponies through a mail order offer. The unicorn and pegasus babies were also sold in Germany with non-glittery symbols. All of Baby Ponies were available both in a box with numerous accessories, and also on a card.
