The Secret Surprise Ponies, printed in Year 9 (1990-1991), weren't just ponies -- they were also jewelry boxes. These ponies are unusually large, and have "secret" compartments inside their bodies. Instead of symbols, they have colorful saddles on their backs, with hinges in the back, and a latch in front. Each pony has a heart- or star-shaped keyhole in her chest, and by turning a key in the lock, you can open the saddle, revealing a hollow space in the pony's back where jewlery or trinkets can be stored. All four Secret Surprise Ponies were printed in the same pose, the Secret Surprise Pose, which was never used outside of this set. Their saddles came in two styles, printed with either hearts or stars. Each pony came with a bow-shaped comb, a key, and either a ring or a bracelet.
Secret Star is a pink adult earth pony with aqua hair and pink eyes with star-shaped points of light in them. She wears a lavender saddle with mint-green and lavender-blue stars, dots, and short double lines all over it, and mint-green and lavender-blue striped trim around the edges. The lock on her chest is an aqua star. She stands in the Secret Surprise Pose with the Star Saddle and the Star-Shaped Lock. Secret Star came with a pink bow comb, a mint-green key, and a pearly white beaded heart bracelet which could be kept inside of her.
Secret Beauty is a blue adult earth pony with lavender hair and pink eyes with heart-shaped points of light in them. She wears a lavender saddle with lavender and dark pink hearts, dots, and squiggly stripes on it, and lavender and dark pink striped trim around the edges. The lock on her chest is a white heart. She stands in the Secret Surprise Pose with the Heart Saddle and the Heart-Shaped Lock. Secret Beauty came with a mint-green bow comb, a purple key, and a silver-colored ring inset with a pink jewel, which could be kept inside of her.
Pretty Puff is a white adult earth pony with dark pink hair and lavender eyes with heart-shaped points of light in them. She wears a mint-green saddle with dark pink and lavender hearts, dots, and squiggly stripes on it, and dark pink and lavender striped trim around the edges. The lock on her chest is a dark pink heart. She stands is in the Secret Surprise Pose with the Heart Saddle and the Heart-Shaped Lock. Pretty Puff came with a peach-colored bow comb, a pink key, and a gold-colored ring inset with a transparent jewel, which could be kept inside of her.
Stardazzle is a purple adult earth pony with light pink hair and blue eyes. She wears a peach-pink saddle with yellow and white stars, dots, and short double lines all over it, and yellow and white striped trim around the edges. The lock on her chest is a yellow star. She stands is in the Secret Surprise Pose with the Star Saddle and the Star-Shaped Lock. Stardazzle came with a purple bow comb, a peach-pink key, and a purple beaded heart bracelet which could be kept inside of her.
